Electronic Viewfinder (EVF)

An Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) is a type of viewfinder primarily used in mirrorless cameras and some advanced compact cameras. Unlike an optical viewfinder, which shows a real image passing through the lens, an EVF is a small, high-resolution display placed near the photographer's eye. This display shows a live preview of the scene as it is captured in real-time by the camera's main image sensor. The advantage of this solution is that the photographer sees the exact image of the future photograph, including all settings such as exposure, white balance, or the applied artistic filter. It also allows for the display of additional information, such as a histogram for brightness control or focus peaking for easier manual focusing. In dark conditions, it can electronically brighten the image, which facilitates composition. Since it is a display, its operation consumes battery power, and its quality is determined by parameters such as resolution and refresh rate.
