Flow rate

The volume of water (liquid) which passes through a sectional area per unit time. It is generally listed in m3/hr (or l/min or l/s) and is measured depending on the number of supply points and their maximum current consumption.

The required minimum flow rate value is calculated by dividing the pumped liquid volume in m3 by the number of minutes it takes to pump it and multiplying the result by 60. For example, if we want to pump 1 m3 of liquid in 5 minutes, the minimum required pump flow rate must be 12 m3/h (1: 5 x 60). When choosing a pump, keep the required flow rate in mind.

  • In an average household, the optimum flow rate in the drinking water supply from a well or borehole is 3 m3/h (the number usually ranges between 2-4 m3/h).
