I’m using the Xiaomi 17T Pro (1TB / 12GB RAM) as a replacement for the Galaxy S10+, and for everyday tasks the phone feels very fast, with plenty of performance to spare. What caught my attention most was the large battery with cutting-edge technology and really fast charging. The display is very good; it’s brighter and the colours are slightly better than on the S10+, although I’d expected the difference to be greater. The phone does have an Always-on Display, but in the Czech localisation it’s hidden under the less obvious name ‘Active Display’, so finding it isn’t entirely intuitive after switching from Samsung. The cameras in this category are decent and fairly consistent, but I find the default photo processing a bit too high-contrast. This is most noticeable on skin tones, where faded patches sometimes appear, verging on overexposure, which doesn’t look natural; on a phone bearing the Leica name, I would have expected a more subtle rendering. By combining settings and filters, this issue can be partially mitigated, but in default mode, the camera software still needs some fine-tuning. Call quality is good and clarity is excellent. For me, the main drawback is the keyboard after switching from Samsung, as well as the lack of MagSafe or an available MagSafe case. Overall, it’s a very capable phone with excellent battery life, fast charging and a good display, but the camera software and certain aspects of the user interface could do with some fine-tuning.
