Hungaroring Track
First Grand Prix: 1986
Circuit length: 4.381km
Number of laps: 70
Total race distance: 306.630km
Lap record: 1:13.447 – Lewis Hamilton (2020 qualifying)
Fastest race lap: 1:16.627 – Lewis Hamilton (2020)
Originally, the circuit was intended to be a Monaco-style street track. However, the authorities later rejected this option and decided to build a purpose-built track on the outskirts of the city.
The first race at this Hungarian circuit was won in 1986 by Nelson Piquet, who beat another legendary driver, Ayrton Senna (Lotus), in his Williams.
The Hungaroring is considered one of the more challenging tracks, mainly due to its narrow and technical layout. It also offers very few overtaking opportunities, forcing drivers into risky manoeuvres. The difficulty of the race is further compounded by high summer temperatures.
Highlights for this season
New season, new regulations for both engines and aerodynamics
Mercedes is back on top after many years, but for how long? Will Ferrari or others overtake them by delivering better car upgrades throughout the season?
How will the internal battle at Mercedes unfold? Will the young Andrea Kimi Antonelli beat the seasoned George Russell, who waited years for a competitive car only to find himself being outpaced by a 19-year-old teenager?
Will Max Verstappen or someone else trigger a grid shake-up and a major wave of transfers? (Max has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave Red Bull under certain team performance conditions despite a valid contract, and it looks like this clause could come into play this year)
