Rear-facing car seats provide the highest level of protection, especially for infants and young children. This position significantly reduces the strain on the child's neck and head in a crash and is therefore recommended until at least 15 months of age, but ideally for as long as possible (up to 105 cm in height). For newborns, this position is mandatory. Rearward-facing seats can be either stand-alone or part of a swivel system that allows a gradual transition to rearward-facing seating.
