A microdermal is a specific type of piercing that is placed under the skin, with only one part of it visible on the surface. Unlike a traditional piercing, it does not have an entry and exit hole, but is composed of an anchor and a piece of jewelry. The anchor, a small plate with holes, is inserted into the subdermal tissue using a small incision or a special needle. The tissue gradually grows through the holes in the anchor, thereby securely fixing it in place. From the anchor, a threaded post protrudes perpendicularly to the skin's surface, onto which the visible decorative jewelry, such as a stud or a ball, is screwed. This top part can be changed after healing. Thanks to this technique, the adornment can be placed even in areas where a regular piercing would not be possible or would tend to reject, such as flat parts of the body – for example, the chest, back, cheeks, or wrists. It is a type of subdermal implant.
