Adjustable Presser Foot Pressure

Presser foot pressure is the force with which the presser foot presses the fabric against the feed dog. The feed dog is a toothed mechanism under the presser foot that moves the fabric during sewing. Adjustable pressure allows this force to be regulated according to the type and thickness of the material. For thick and sturdy fabrics, such as denim, higher pressure is needed to hold the fabric firmly and prevent it from slipping. Conversely, for very delicate, stretchy, or thin materials, such as silk or knit fabric, excessive pressure can cause undesirable puckering, stretching of the fabric, or indentations. Reducing the pressure ensures that such fabrics pass through the machine smoothly and without damage. The ability to regulate pressure thus contributes to even and high-quality stitches on a wide range of materials.
