RFID stands for radio frequency identification, which is a technology enabling wireless data transfer over short distances. This technology is used, for example, by contactless payment cards, modern passports, or smart cards. There is a risk that sensitive data from these carriers could be illicitly read remotely using a special reader, a practice known as "skimming". An RFID protection pouch contains a special material layer that blocks radio signals. This shielding layer functions as a so-called Faraday cage and prevents any attempt to communicate with the chip as long as the card or document is stored inside.
