The vag-com 304 with cable stolen from the webshop works without problems. To minimize the problems I preferred to use reasonably old hardware (Asus eee - ideal for this purpose) and especially software - 32-bit windows 7. XP might be even more suitable and especially more agile.

Definitely do not buy any cable with this chip. I didn' t believe it at first, but it brings more pain than good. Installing the cable and getting VAG-COM up and running will take you about 5 minutes if you' re not a complete novice. But the cable is very unreliable. It will only connect to the unit on the third attempt, and if you log in while driving, be prepared that the data will not be complete, because the cable cannot handle it and the transmission will be interrupted. Thanks to a good person here at Alza, I got to download the drivers that didn' t come to me by themselves (I don' t know if it was because I bought them unpacked, but it shouldn' t). So step number one is to get the drivers. The chip that is in this device is called CH340. Drivers for windows and other OS can be downloaded here https://www.wch-ic.com/search? q=CH340&t=downloads (thanks to the good soul in the consulting room for clarification). The next step is to put the SW into operation. Everything works best in WIN XP, it can be run in virtualbox and you only need to bridge the USB of this cable from the guest computer to the virtual box. Well, start the software of your choice, for example VCDS Lite, or better VAG-COM 304, with which it works perfectly.
