I switched from an old iRobot Roomba (10 years old) and am really impressed with the features of the Roborock QR 798. Smart mapping of the apartment - the robot remembers the layout perfectly, creates an accurate map and I can choose in the app which room I want a combined wet + dry cleaning or just dry vacuuming. This is a huge improvement over the old Roomba, where it was very primitive. Great obstacle avoidance - walks around chair legs, cables, children's toys or dog bowls really reliably, hardly pushes anything and doesn't get stuck. Perfect room coverage - it doesn't neglect any corners, the LiDAR + Reactive Tech system works perfectly. Very good battery life - can clean an entire larger apartment on one charge without having to go back to recharge in the middle. Quiet operation - runs almost silently, I can run it in the evening or when the kids are sleeping. Overall, it's a huge upgrade after 10 years. The multifunctional dock empties dust, washes and dries mop cloths, refills water - truly hands-free cleaning. For the money, one of the best solutions on the market now in 2026.

I bought a Roborock QR 798 cleaning robot. But it's not usable for me. Learning how to use it requires dozens of hours of studying the controls, exhaustive work with the application and constant fine-tuning. It is therefore highly counterproductive: Using this machine alone is so mentally exhausting that it's not worth it at all - it's infinitely easier and faster to just grab a mop and bucket and wash it by hand. Today, these cleaning robots (including Roborock) are not appliances, but computer systems that only pretend to be appliances. The manufacturer promises "saved time", but in reality it just shifts it from physical work to mental work, studying manuals, applications, maps, zones, exceptions, updates, bugs, restarts. Cleaning turns into an IT admin project. In short, I'd rather spend thirty minutes hand-washing the floor than three hundred hours studying, configuring, tweaking and checking a complicated computer system. I don't have the time or energy for this.

An interesting toy to observe.

when the user enters a specific area to be cleaned, the robot cleans a completely different area than the one the person entered;

he often does something completely different than what you give him - for example, when I told him to go back to the dock, he started snooping around the house instead;

overall, it is not worth it, because saving a few minutes of physical work is bought with such a mental burden and the resulting stress that hand washing the floor is in the end much easier, many times faster and costs incomparably less energy.
