It does make a noise, but this is mainly caused by the strong airflow, i.e. I expect it to be similar for all hair dryers with a similar power rating. The engine itself is barely audible. The hairdryer is connected by a relatively long but sturdy cable (with insulation made of what feels like high-quality, pleasant-to-the-touch material).
