We already have a second kettle. With our first one, after about two years, the supply wire from the heating coil burned through the bottom of the kettle. The kettle simply started to smell when in use and a burnt hole appeared in the plastic at the bottom of the kettle. Nevertheless, we bought this kettle again because we could not find another one with 2L capacity and adjustable temperature. Maybe the other one will last longer. Otherwise, however, I keep the kettle off the stand when I'm not cooking something in the kettle. People leaving the kettle on the stand when they are not at home is said to be the most common cause of fires.
