Seagate IronWolf 3TB CMR

The Seagate IronWolf 3TB CMR hard drive is one of the high load internal HDDs for NAS systems. 3.5" HDDs are designed mainly for desktop computers and data centres. One of the main characteristics is obviously the rotational speed (RPM). The 5400 rev/min RPM meets the needs of most typical users. The total capacity of the hard drive is 3000 GB. The device uses a 256 MB memory cache. You can link the Seagate hard disk and other hardware is facilitated using the SATA III interface.

Seagate IronWolf 3TB CMR Hard Drive Key Features

  • Read speed up to 202 MB/s and write speed up to 202 MB/s
  • 256 MB memory cache
  • Seagate 3.5" drive for standard bays
  • Standard power consumption is 4,8 W, while in stand-by mode it makes 0.5 W
  • You can connect it to a PC or other devices through the SATA III interface

Other Hard Drive Features

Standard HDDs are notable for their construction. The enclosure conceals a mechanism with moving platters accompanied by hard disk heads that facilitate reading and writing of data. These mechanical parts are admittedly more sensitive to shocks, but this weak point is well-compensated by an affordable price tag and high storage capacity. The crucial criterion that affects the speed of a hard drive is RPM - the number of revolutions per minute. With the Seagate IronWolf 3TB CMR, we have 5400 rev/min revolutions per minute. You can find these drives mainly in PCs designed for effective office work but nothing particularly performance-intensive. Data transmission and stability is also significantly affected by the disk buffer, usually called cache. The Seagate HDD includes a 256 MB cache that keeps the last written data for their fast retrieval and reading.

Connecting the Seagate HDD

If you want to install the Seagate IronWolf 3TB CMR in your PC or other device, it requires a 3.5" slot. The communication between the HDD and PC happens using the SATA III interface with a standard speed of 6 Gbit/s. The technology is one of the best HDD data transfer options available and delivers a throughput of 600 MB/s.
