cold handle, steam goes into the shut-off through a separate tube
the last one worked great for over 3 years and would still be functional today if we consistently closed it when the lid opening button was pressed
I don't know of any, of all the kettles we've ever had, the last one was 100% the best and we hope the current one will be too
