About half a year before the announcement that there would be a remake of AC BF, I thought to myself that I’d buy the original AC BF and relive the adventure. So it was all the more of a treat knowing that I’d be playing it again with better graphics, which I was hoping would make for a much more spectacular experience (let’s face it, the Caribbean really is one of the most beautiful game worlds there is). ). And they’ve pulled it off brilliantly – the graphics are truly breathtaking, and that’s no exaggeration! I also welcome the addition of the clearance (as we know it, for example, (from Valhalla), tripping an opponent or pulling the rope with a spear between combat elements. Unfortunately, on the other hand, the option to use enemy weapons has been removed, which is a great pity. I suppose this goes hand in hand with the change to how those ships are captured, as I mentioned above. You can no longer take a musket from one sniper and use it to shoot another sniper on the other mast. We’ve probably got used to the fact that there’s no Czech localisation for the latest instalments, but since subtitles had already been made for them, they could have included them in the remake as well, as far as I’m concerned. It probably wouldn’t need that much extra work after all. As for a summary and review, if this were a ‘new’ game, there’d certainly be no problem giving it 100 per cent, as we wouldn’t have anything to compare it with. A minor issue, however, is that in the original AC, those two aspects (using enemy weapons and capturing ships) were simply better executed, and I really don’t understand why they were removed. I suppose I could understand the ships and the way a certain code of conduct works, but it’s a real shame about the weapons. So 90–95 per cent for that minor blemish on an otherwise almost perfect AC title, or rather, on the perfect open-world adventure game in general. 4,5 stars I can't give, so I give 5.
Thanks to the improved graphics, it really is a stunning display of the Caribbean landscape (vegetation, the sea, sunsets). )
a welcome improvement/enhancement to the game mechanics (hand-to-hand combat, stealth, naval battles, more ways to upgrade your ship). )
Additional content (pets, a new type of enemy, missions for lieutenants that enhance the ship’s stats, or charms that enhance Edward’s stats). )
the charm of the first instalments (the characters, the Caribbean, the naval battles). (That’s the sort of thing you’d love to experience again)
There are no Czech subtitles (the original AC had them, and the story is about 95 per cent the same – they could have included them here as well)
I think it’s a real shame that Edward can only use his two swords. In the original game, it was possible to pick up an enemy’s weapon, a musket (e.g. (for a longer range), to ‘mow down’ opponents using only a concealed blade, or to disarm an enemy with your bare hands and then use their weapon against them. It meant you could have a bit more fun with it, and it looked more varied, not to mention the other ‘ending animations’
simplified ship capture. By contrast, in the original game, you had to perform a specific action when boarding a ship (e.g. (killing 20 people, a lieutenant, tearing down the flag, and various combinations of these) – in that case, we have no specific obligations here. The option to take down the flag remains here, but the whole thing is designed with declining morale in mind, and taking down the flag will help to boost morale a little more quickly than killing the crew. I understand the point, but it does make you want to just mow down the crew every time, and it doesn’t force you to explore the whole ship (= more repetitive and therefore more boring)
