My mobile requirement was basically: as small as possible, which can fit in the palm of your hand, fast, not rushing. There were only 2 types of more powerful small mobiles to choose from: this and the iPhone mini. I decided on the Zenfone based on a good experience with an Asus laptop years ago (price/performance), the fact that I was used to Android, and the price, which in comparable mobile parameters was almost 2x lower than this Zenfone (I bought it on Alza 1.12.22 for 10,980 CZK, a discount of approx. 19 thousand. ), so I' m reviewing after a year of use. My initial satisfaction (including a trip to the tropics, it didn' t overheat there either), was marred by the experience that the mobile got stuck during normal activity (after less than 3 months. usage). The complaint was devastating, I don' t know how long the mobile was transported to the Ostrava service center. I know it was 56% charged at the time it stuck, and the service told me it was probably a bad charge (as they got it almost dead, but they never said when I directly asked how much; it was quite cold), and he wanted to solve the matter by sending an offer to buy the original charger (which, however, was already part of the orig. packaging and I used it regularly, I just didn' t send it to the service center together with the mobile phone - for some reason they wanted to send it with the charger as well. Trumpeters didn' t know that everyone who bought it had to have it). Just by the way, they then wrote to me that they changed the software. It came back to me frozen and charged to 18% after 3 weeks (sent to service and received via DPD), it took 3 weeks through several phone calls and clarifications. No apology. Since then, the Zenfone 8 has been working at 100%. Full satisfaction with my, admittedly not very big, claims. I use the 4G+ network, it' s quite enough for me. It' s lightning fast, I wish I had a laptop and computer like that too. I think that the Zenfone 8 was put into circulation prematurely without catching any flies, however, our Taiwanese comrades have probably already corrected their mistakes. So if I wanted to buy a smaller mobile now, I could recommend it, the price/performance ratio is good compared to the mini-iPhone, unfortunately there is probably no other competition.
Fast as a dragon, powerful, does not cut (except for 1x, see minuses), does not overheat. Have 8 GB of oper. the memory is fine, maybe only twice a year since I have the Zenfone, I preferred to restart it because of the slowness (multiple streams at once). One year of satisfaction
Relatively small (the mini-iPhone is actually smaller, I don' t understand why everyone only makes " paddles" ). It fits in the palm of your hand and many things can be done with one hand. The iPhone-mini is smaller and slightly lighter. My previous phone, Sony-Xperia-mini, was significantly smaller and lighter
The display is nice, contrasting, the colors are moderate, without reservations (the iPhone is probably more colorful). It is only drilled with a small hole for selfies, other brands usually have it worse. The overall design (if you put up with it) will not embarrass you
Photos and videos pretty good, not great, iPhone probably slightly better in that regard
128 GB of storage is enough for me when using space reasonably (photos and videos, if you have more than a few, it is better to store them in another storage). Then the absence of an SD card slot doesn' t matter
Bluetooth pairs well, has a relatively good (far) range
A complaint was necessary (it crashed and wouldn' t restart). But they got it right, even if their overall approach, including the final report, was quite comical (see text)
The fingerprint (it is possible to enter 2) works pretty well on the display for me on the left thumb, but poorly on the right, I tried to improve it somehow, it didn' t work. It recognizes faces well if there is enough light (the iPhone is probably faster in this regard). Sony-Xperia had a fingerprint reader on the side on the launch button and it worked much faster, perfectly
It slides a little in the hands, the original Asus back cover is a little better, but even that is quite slippery

I don't have any major shortcoming after 3/4 year of use, maybe just the sensitivity of the keys. I have large hands and sometimes struggle with buttons that don't fit under my fingers. At least it helps to have a hint

Although I like the silver color, I ended up getting new "backs" for the phone. They are dark blue, with the motif of the printed joint plate. The edges are transparent so the silver strip is visible and have a soft textured surface so the mobile doesn't slip. They protrude a little over the display, so, within limits, they also protect against impact. Overall, I am very satisfied so far.

The original android 11 has updated up to 13!
After updating to 13, Call Recording doesn't work - apparently a lot of people have it, so I hope ASUS fixes it.
Sometimes it doesn't recognize the face and sometimes it makes a joke - if I give up and make a move, it unlocks. He'll probably recognize me from a different angle. But it's not critical, I rather enjoy it: -)

I don't really understand why many write here as a "minus" the lack of an SD card slot. So I can see what I'm buying, right? Or did you figure that out after you bought it? Oh, yeah. I've been looking for the perfect mobile for a few years. I always end up with something substantial. So far, the closest I've come is with the Xiaomi 11 lite 5g NE, but the proximity sensor on that one is fooling around (a known thing). A month ago, I came across a decently priced Zenfone 8 (10990). I tried. Bingo. The ideal mobile phone is here. FOR ME. Still reasonable dimensions. The Snapdragon 888 is a blast. Power to spare. With 8GB RAM absolutely smooth running system. So far I haven't seen a single hit or hesitation. Probably also thanks to the more or less clean Android. The camera's pretty decent. The display could have a bit more brightness, in the sun it's on the edge, but still readable. The design is great. But a holster is an absolute necessity. That aluminum body is extremely unstable in the hand, unfortunately. I might put that as a "minus". The only real "minus" I give for the fingerprint reader. It is better than many other mobile phones, but still not much. A capacitive reader in the button would be great. It's also back with the Zenfone 9. On the other hand, this phone has pretty good facial recognition. Face ID on iPhone is a level away. But it works pretty well here. The battery has a battery life adequate to its capacity. Again, why list this as a shortcoming? I will definitely recommend the phone for the current 11990. It's a great buy. Who doesn't mind not getting the next 8 versions of Android, feel free. When there's a Zenfone 9 for this kind of money, it will be the successor.

Zenfone 8 8GB/256GB black I bought the mobile on 13.07.2021 and despite many positives I give 2*, because 3 weeks before the warranty period expired, the mobile turned itself off and could not be turned on, so the complaint, in 3 weeks I returned it "repaired", while according to the service document, the motherboard was replaced and updated. Well now it's been roughly 3 weeks since the repair and yesterday (again out of the blue) the display started reporting the message "Waiting for flashing rumdump", which according to various sites is an error that requires replacing the motherboard: D: D: D
I chose this Asus because of the size and the jack connector, otherwise I have always preferred Samsung and after this experience, never anything else! I always pass my Samsung on to my mom when I buy a new one and it has always lasted for 7 years or so: )
