This SparkFun Ardumoto Shield Kit is an ideal gift for enthusiastic fans of robot toys. The set includes an Ardumoto Shield, in addition to tires, motors, connectors and wires. Everything comes in a handy red box, which could also be used as a chassis for the robot.

Note: The engines included in this set are not compatible with the Wheel Encoder set.

Ardumoto Shield is an easy to use dual motor controller for Arduino robotic toys. When combined with Arduino, the Ardumoto makes a fantastic controller platform for RC vehicles and small, autonomous robots. At the heart of the Ardumoto set is an L298 (the large, black chip right in the middle). The L298 chip is one of the most popular dual-channel motors around, capable of driving up to 2A per channel. The board takes its power from the same Vin line as the Arduino board and includes blue and yellow LEDs, to indicate active direction. All driver lines are diode protected from back EMF.
