Fitness Trackers

A fitness tracker is a device that can collect and analyse data during physical activity. The main function is to monitor the heart rate. The majority of them also calculate calories burned and percentage of fat burned. When choosing a fitness tracker, we recommend to decide depending on the level and type of sports activities that you do the most.

Athletic goals

  • I'm starting to exercise - for occasional running you can use a fitness tracker with GPS that monitors your heart rate - they are comfortable and easy to operate.
  • I want to lose weight - heart rate monitoring is very important here. Most models will alert you if you leave the pre-set parameters.
  • I am an advanced runner - use a chest strap to achieve more accurate heart rate measurements. Choose a model with modes for interval training, lap time comparison, and a personal trainer.
  • I want to conquer a triathlon - a very difficult task even for a fitness tracker, as it has to switch between several different sports. Look for durable devices with water resistance, optional external sensors, heart rate measurement in the water, and the ability to export your data to a computer.
  • I am a mountain climber - make sure it has GPS and an altimeter.
  • I am a cyclist - choose a fitness tracker containing biking maps that can be attached to the handlebars.
  • I play golf - a database of golf courses could come in handy.

How do I determine my maximum heart rate?

220 - age = maximum heart rate (maxTF)

  • Regeneration Zone - 50-60% maxTF - muscle regeneration, energy recovery after a hard workout, improves immune system and relaxes body and mind.
  • Aerobic Zone - 60-75% maxTF - builds endurance, can be sustained for a longer period of time, ideal for burning fat.
  • Anaerobic Zone - 75-85% maxTF - muscle training, make sure to pause between sets, suitable if you wish to maintain muscle mass.

Shouldn't I rather buy a smart watch?

  • Smart watches are designed to communicate with a mobile phone - they are more suitable for daily activities and some occasional workout.
  • Fitness trackers are more durable and have a longer battery life, making them more suitable for sports and outdoor activities.

Fitness trackers with integrated GPS

Other more-advanced trackers feature a GPS chip, which provides a more accurate account of your movement. based on the measured distance and time, GPS watches display your current speed and pace, either for the whole training session or during individual circuits. For cyclists, special cycle computers are designed to record the distance travelled, speed and duration of the journey. As with all smart fitness trackers, you can evaluate your performance online via the web application.

Heart rate zones for effective training

Pair your heart rate monitor with a chest strap via Bluetooth and get detailed information about your heart rate during the workout. A great feature of smart watches is the opportunity to train in particular heart rate "zones" that you specify. This way, you effectively improve your endurance, gain fitness, burn body fat, and lose weight. Some fitness trackers, such as the TomTom Runner, feature an integrated heart rate monitor.
