The PowerA wireless gamepad controls games on the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. The controller replaces the standard controls. It works both when the console is in its docking station and in handheld mode. The device does not support HD rumble, an IR camera, or Amiibo NFC technology. It connects to the gaming system wirelessly using Bluetooth.
The game controller uses wireless Bluetooth technology to connect to compatible consoles from the Nintendo Switch family. Players can play from several metres away from the screen without the need for connecting cables in the room, which makes it easier to organise your gaming space. The signal remains stable whether the console is in the docking station or when playing in handheld mode.
The integrated gyroscope reacts to physical tilting, turning, and twisting of the entire controller during gameplay. The built-in system transfers physical hand movements directly into the compatible game environment for all supported titles on the Nintendo Switch platform. The motion controls are used for precise aiming, turning, or navigating in-game menus. This lets the player control the game by naturally tilting the controller, expanding the standard control options available with buttons and analogue sticks.
The wireless gamepad is powered by two AA alkaline batteries, which are included in the package. The controller provides up to 40 hours of continuous operation before these power sources need to be replaced with new ones. The total battery life in practice is influenced by several factors, such as usage style and environmental conditions. Users can also use their own rechargeable AA batteries to power the controller, reducing the running costs of buying disposable batteries.
The ergonomic design meets standards for long-term holding without hand fatigue during gaming sessions. The body features a total of 23 functional buttons, including analogue sticks with Hall Effect technology, a full-size D-pad, ABXY buttons, and L/R/ZL/ZR rear triggers. The Hall effect sticks prevent unwanted wear and drift. The controller also offers custom button mapping to personalise the controls, though the C button is not available on this model.
The controller's body features an integrated multi-function LED light indicator. This element displays the assigned player number in multiplayer mode when multiple controllers are connected to a single console. At the same time, the LED light alerts the user to low battery capacity by flashing, preventing the controller from unexpectedly turning off mid-game. The indicator is clearly visible on the front of the device.
