It must be connected via the included or other extension cable, as the onboard electronics may adversely interfere with the Zigbee network. It is important that the port/extension is USB2.0 (4 pins), so it is included. USB3.0 also causes interference.
It works for half a year without a single hitch, with ZHA integration in Home Assistant on Odroid M1 board.
