RODE VideoMic NTG

RODE VideoMic NTG
The RØDE VideoMic NTG is a highly directional condenser shotgun microphone. The RØDE VideoMic NTG is designed for use with DSLRs, smartphones, tablets, and boom poles, and can also function as a desktop USB microphone. The condenser microphone features a digital high-pass filter switch (75Hz / 150Hz), a high-frequency boost, a -20dB pad switch, and a safety channel. This allows you to record a separate track in case the primary recording channel fails. The RODE VideoMic NTG has an auto-sensing 3.5mm output that detects which device it is connected to and adapts accordingly. The microphone has an LED that indicates signal clipping. For operation, the RODE VideoMic NTG uses a rechargeable battery with up to 30 hours of life on a single charge. It recharges via USB-C, with a full charge taking approximately 2 hours.
Key Features of the RODE VideoMic NTG Microphone
- Highly directional shotgun microphone
- Clean, natural sound with low noise
- Wide compatibility
- Direct headphone monitoring
- Built-in rechargeable battery with long life
- Advanced sound settings
- Clipping indicator LED
- Firmware can be updated via the RØDE Central app
Suitable for Cameras and Video Creation
Revolutionary Acoustic Design
The RØDE VideoMic NTG uses revolutionary circular port technology with acoustic perforations along the length of the microphone. This replaces the linear slots traditionally used in shotgun microphones. As a result, the RØDE VideoMic NTG microphone delivers a transparent, uncoloured, and natural sound. The microphone also excels with its supercardioid polar pattern, low self-noise, and flat frequency response.
Wide Compatibility and the RØDE Central App
Your camera and the RØDE VideoMic NTG microphone make a great duo. The RØDE microphone can also be connected to smartphones, boom poles, and tablets, or connected to your laptop/desktop PC via USB. When you connect the RØDE VideoMic NTG via USB, the free 3.5mm jack can be used as a headphone output for direct audio monitoring. The RØDE VideoMic NTG's firmware is easily updated via the RØDE Central app on your PC. The update option will appear as soon as you plug the microphone in via USB.

Microphone Principle
A dynamic microphone is suitable for open performances, live broadcasts, music production, etc. It uses a magnet and a moving coil to capture sound.
A condenser microphone is mainly used for studio purposes. It has higher sensitivity and lower noise. It requires an external power source.
Frequency Range
The frequency range indicates the range of frequency values that the microphone records. The wider the range, the more sounds it can capture.
Low frequencies (e.g., 20–200Hz): Bass, the deepest tones of instruments (double bass, kick drum) and male voices.
Mid frequencies (e.g., 200–3,000Hz): The body of instruments, the foundation of the voice where the ear is most sensitive, important for speech clarity.
High frequencies (e.g., 3,000–14,000Hz): Treble, details, sibilance and the "shine" of the sound.
The "Air" band (above 14,000Hz): Gives recordings a sense of premium, high-quality sound and space.
Sensitivity
Microphone sensitivity is the ratio of output voltage to acoustic pressure. It expresses how loud a signal the microphone produces at a given acoustic pressure; higher sensitivity means a stronger voltage and is suitable for quiet studios, while lower sensitivity is better for noisy environments as it doesn't unnecessarily amplify ambient noise.
