Camping & Outdoor Knives

The Knives category includes small pocket knives, hunting knives, and combat knives. They are divided mainly depending on the length and material of the blade.

Blade material

Stainless steel

  • The most commonly used material – the alloy contains at least 13% of chromium, which gives the blade higher resistance to corrosion and makes it easier to maintain.
  • Compared to carbon blades, they dull faster and are harder to sharpen.

Carbon steel

  • Blades contain a higher ratio of carbon, thereby has improved cutting properties and are easier to grind.
  • They are not as corrosion resistant and have higher maintenance requirements.

Damascus steel

  • Tough, hard, and resistant to breakage.
  • Popular among artistic blacksmiths - blades have distinctive patterns and mottling.

Knife types

Pocket knives

Pocket knives are the most common, most versatile, have a simple design and compact dimensions (blade length up to 12 cm).

  • Simpler models include a can or bottle opener - they are cheap and very lightweight.
  • Others can offer up to twenty different tools - from scissors and hacksaws to screwdrivers or chisels – but they are also heavier and more expensive.
  • There are also specific models that have a USB flash drive, a ruler, or a LED lamp.
  • You can also find knives designed for a specific purpose - mushroom knives, for example, have a compact design, a simple blade, and as special brush to clean mushrooms.

Combat and hunting knives

These are designed for self-defence, survival in the wild, or have some specific purpose – they are meant for hunters, rescuers, and such.

  • Hunting knives have a small duct over the upper edge of the blade to drain blood and a guthook for gutting the game. Knives with a narrower blade are suitable for boning.
  • Rescue knives are serrated, so they are perfect for cutting ropes and belts.

Compared to pocket knives, they have a large fixed blade and the handle tends to be more ergonomically shaped. The handle is usually equipped with a guard, which prevents the hand from slipping down on the blade and accidental cuts. The knives differ depending on the length and width of the blade.
