Types of Sun Lotion Products for Children and Infants

Suncare Lotion for Babies

Sensitive sun lotions are recommended for babies and infants - they do not contain parabens (chemicals most commonly referred to as E126 and E214). We also recommend using non-scented lotions. Artificial perfume can cause skin irritation and attract insects.

Children's Suns Lotions

Children's sun creams are often streaky, but at least you know where exactly the cream is applied. This is especially useful when you're helping them put it on.

Children's Sun Lotion Sprays

Children's sun lotion sprays are much easier to apply than rubbing in the regular sun lotion. Compared to greasier, thicker creams, these do not last as long and sometimes have to be applied much more often.

Sunbathing Oils Are Not Recommended for Children

Sunbathing oils for small children are not recommended. They have a lower protection factor (SPF) and are designed for more effective sunbathing, not for skin protection.

What is SPF and What Number Should You Choose?

SPF or Sun Protection Factor tells you how much the lotion protects your skin from UVA and UVB sunlight. You can find the SPF number on each child's sun lotion, which also indicates how long you can stay in the sun without burning your skin. The minimum SPF for children is 30, but we recommend SPF 50 protection.

For example, if your child is kept in the sun without a sunscreen for 10 minutes before burning, the 15-minute sun cream is extended to 10 × 15 minutes.

Tips for Sunbathing with Children

• Apply the lotion for 20 to 30 minutes before sun exposure.
• After washing or swimming, don't forget to apply the lotion again, even with waterproof cream.
• Sand on the beach can often exfoliate the cream away, so apply it repeatedly.

Some Precaution When Using Sun Lotion on Babies

Sun protection is especially important for babies, but it is also important to use it with reason. Doctors recommend exposing skin for 15 minutes a day for enough vitamin D. Suns lotions block these rays, so use them only for longer exposure to the sun and especially around noon when the sun's rays are strongest.

First Aid for Babies and Sunburned Skin

If you cannot protect your baby from the sun, your skin may become red and burned. In this case, use cool creams, gels or foams to soothe and treat the skin with after sun care, such as panthenol or aloe vera. Give your baby plenty of fluids and avoid the sun until the skin becomes calm. In the case of extreme burns and blisters, visit a doctor.
