Choosing freestyle scooter
Wheels
Hardness of the wheels affects the speed and degree of vibration when driving over an uneven surface. If the wheels are harder, the faster the scooter will go, but will also feel more vibrations.
bearings
The quality of the bearings are measured on a scale ABEC 1 to 9 Higher numbers mean higher quality bearings and for recreational riding it is recommended to have at least ABEC 5
frame material
- The steel frames are very strong and durable. Slight disadvantage may be that they're heavier than other materials.
- Dural is a property similar to steel, but has a lower weight.
- Carbon fiber is used mainly for racing scooters. It is the lightest of all materials, but also much more expensive.
frame height
For scooters with a lower frame there is a risk that the frame can strike the ground on an uneven surface. If you ride along well-kept roads however, it will not be a problem. Thus on uneven terrain it is necessary to choose a model with a frame height of more than a few centimeters.
handlebar height
The optimum height of handlebars for freestyle scooters compared to all other scooters vary. When you perform tricks you need to have the scooter firmly under control, which generally ensures short handlebars. See heights from the table below.
height slider | handlebar height | height slider | handlebar height |
100-110 cm | 29-34 cm | 150-160 cm | 55-60 cm |
110-120 cm | 34-39 cm | 160-170 cm | 60-65 cm |
120-130 cm | 39-45 cm | 170-180 cm | 65-71 cm |
130-140 cm | 45-50 cm | 180-190 cm | 71-76 cm |
140-150 cm | 50-55 cm | 190-200 cm | 76-81 cm |
Remember protectors
When riding on a scooter it is recommended to buy elbow pads, knee and a helmet. Especially when you are selecting a model for your child.
