SMLIGHT SLZB-MR1U

SMLIGHT SLZB-MR1U
The SMLIGHT SLZB-MR1U bridge serves as a central unit for controlling your smart home. This multi-radio coordinator with Ethernet and PoE support connects end devices via Zigbee and Thread wireless protocols. It helps to reduce signal interference issues that can arise when using standard USB adapters connected directly to the server. Its design, featuring external antennas and the option for Power over Ethernet, allows for installation in locations with suitable signal coverage, contributing to network stability in both homes and commercial buildings. The SMLIGHT SLZB-MR1U can do more than just receive signals. It also supports a standalone Zigbee Hub Mode and allows you to run local automation scripts in the Berry language. This ensures a fast response on the local network without the need for a continuous connection to a parent server, contributing to the reliable operation of home automation processes.
Key features of the SMLIGHT SLZB-MR1U bridge
- Quad-radio architecture integrates TI CC2652P7 and Silicon Labs EFR32MG21 chips
- Supports 48V PoE and backup USB-C power
- USB passthrough function for connecting additional USB adapters via LAN
- Two external 5dB gain antennas improve wireless signal coverage
- Integrated SLZB-OS with a web interface for diagnostics and OTA updates
- Wired network connection via 100Mbps Ethernet
- Supports autonomous mode using the Berry scripting language
Architecture for a stable network
The SMLIGHT SLZB-MR1U bridge combines several wireless chips in one body. The main TI CC2652P7 module handles robust Zigbee 3.0 networks, while the dedicated Silicon Labs EFR32MG21 chip takes care of communication within Thread and Matter. The setup is completed by an ESP32-S3 processor for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. This combination distributes the load and maintains stable operation even with a high number of active elements.
Installation and power
The device supports 48V PoE power via an internal module or alternatively via the USB-C connector. This eliminates the need to install power sockets near the coordinator. You can connect the SMLIGHT SLZB-MR1U bridge to the network using 100Mbps Ethernet, which ensures more reliable data transfer compared to a wireless connection. The package also includes wall-mounting accessories.
Remote connection of USB devices via an Ethernet network
A unique feature is the host port with USB passthrough, which works as a remote USB bridge over TCP/IP. You can connect another compatible USB dongle, such as one for a Z-Wave network, and make it accessible to your control system over the existing Ethernet network. This allows you to physically separate the antennas from the server itself, which can remain safely stored in a rack or a utility room.
Compatibility and management
This bridge works seamlessly with popular smart home platforms. It serves as a coordinator for Home Assistant via the Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA integration tools. The entire device is managed by the pre-installed SLZB-OS, which offers a clear web interface, detailed logs, diagnostic tools, MQTT integration, and a local API.
