After the season
With an author's afterword and the bonus short story "The Winter Daughter".
Dead River, the easternmost island in the state of Maine and the entire United States…
It's the end of the season, the summer guests are leaving, and a drowsiness settles over the town, the surrounding woods, and the coast. But this is shattered by the screams of a woman blindly fleeing from a group of enraged, bloodthirsty creatures…
It’s the end of the season and a young editor from New York has found a quiet place to work in a remote house by the woods. Five of her friends plan to pull her out of her solitude, and along with them, something none of them could have imagined in their wildest dreams…
The novel Off Season (1981), dealing with the clash between civilisation and primitivism, is now a classic of literary horror.
“Who’s the scariest guy in America? Probably Jack Ketchum, the outlaw horror writer whose grisly first novel is finally being released in an uncut version. If you read it on Thanksgiving, you probably won't sleep until Christmas. And don't say Uncle Stevie didn't warn you (ha-ha-ha).” – Stephen King
