The Arturia MiniLab 37 MIDI controller is used for controlling music software, creating melodies and producing tracks. This compact instrument features an extended slim keyboard with 37 velocity-sensitive keys. Panel Elements
The instrument includes two banks of eight pads that are sensitive to both velocity and pressure. These pads have RGB backlighting for visual guidance during performance. Users have four smooth faders assigned to the master volume and a three-band equaliser on the main output. The rotary knobs are used to control macros and effects in the Analog Lab software for quick sound changes.
Creative Features
The device offers several built-in features to make music creation easier. The built-in arpeggiator converts pressed notes into melodic tones in the exact tempo of the project. Chord mode allows you to play entire chords with a single key press for easy harmony creation. The Octave Up and Down buttons change the overall range of the keyboard, the Hold function sustains notes without needing to be held down, and there is also the option to transpose by semitones.
Integration
This controller integrates directly with Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Bitwig Studio and Reason. The MCU protocol ensures compatibility with other software on the market. Users can use five custom user presets to map all the elements themselves. The integrated mini-display with a clickable knob clearly shows the current parameter values in real time.
Connectivity and Ports
The rear panel houses connectors for connecting to external devices. The five-pin MIDI DIN output sends data to external synthesisers, samplers and other hardware. The pedal input supports connecting a sustain pedal, expression pedal, or footswitch for wider control possibilities. The USB-C port is for connecting to computers or an iPad and also provides direct power to the entire controller.
Construction
This instrument is made with the environment in mind. The body contains more than 50% recycled plastic and the packaging is made of fully recyclable cardboard. The manufacturer has focused on the high durability of the entire construction. Software Suite
The package includes a software bundle that contains Analog Lab Intro with thousands of sounds. The included Ableton Live Lite software is for recording and production. Users also get a licence for selected instruments from Native Instruments Komplete 15. The bundle is complemented by a two-month subscription to Loopcloud with two sample packs, a trial subscription to Melodics with bonus lessons for learning to play, and the MIDI Control Center configuration software.
