The life of the battery pack can be significantly reduced by the charging imbalance of the individual batteries. This is a situation where you have 12 V batteries (not just in parallel!) In series or in series. In such a system, a 12 volt battery with slightly higher internal resistance can cause a full battery failure in parallel batteries and overcharging in series batteries. New battery cells or whole batteries in series have almost identical initial properties. Their minor differences are compared during the absorption or equalization phase of the charge. However, large differences can lead to excessive gassing caused by overcharging in more charged batteries and undesirable sulphation of less charged batteries caused by a full failure.
The solution is balanced charging with a battery balancer. This balances the charge status of two 12 V batteries or several parallel series batteries. As soon as the charging voltage reaches more than 27.3 V in the 24 V system, the battery balancer activates and compares the voltage of the two to a series of connected batteries. The Balancer can redirect current up to 0.7 A from one battery (or parallel batteries) to a higher voltage to the other battery. As a result of different charging current, the state of final charge of all batteries is identical.
Battery balancers can be arranged in parallel for more complex systems. U 48 In the system, a total of three balancers are used.
