For sports use, you can independently set whether the display should turn off or remain permanently visible. The display is protected by sapphire crystal. One of the main innovations of the Fenix 8 model is the colour touchscreen, which has grown to a diameter of 1.3” compared to the previous model. The larger display affects the bezel design, which is thinner, giving the watch a more elegant feel. The quick-change strap system also lets you switch between different colours or strap materials to suit your mood or outfit. The Garmin watch's memory comes with preloaded detailed topographic maps of Europe, with the option to download detailed maps of other continents. The watch can provide detailed navigation over the map, including turn-by-turn navigation instructions when following a route. Routes can be planned directly on the watch, in the Garmin Connect mobile app, or using the popular Czech app Mapy.cz. Precise position calculation is ensured by a satellite receiver with support for GPS/GLONASS/GALILEO satellite systems and a multi-band GPS receiver. SatIQ technology ensures optimal satellite reception by automatically switching between multiple satellite signal reception modes to optimise accuracy and save energy. A very practical tool on the watch is the built-in LED torch with red and white light and adjustable intensity.

The long battery life of the Garmin Fenix 8 allows for all-day wear without the need to take it off frequently for charging. The watch is therefore able to continuously measure and record daily and nightly health and activity data. This primarily includes heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen saturation, breathing rate, daily step count, floors climbed, and minutes of intense activity. From these measured values, the watch derives other functions and metrics, such as Body Battery, Stress Score, Heart Rate Variability Status, temperature and altitude acclimatisation status, and more. Among the health monitoring functions are also features for measuring sleep duration and quality. In addition to the duration and a Sleep Score, the Garmin Fenix 8 watch also measures individual sleep stages and short naps, and provides recommendations for achieving better sleep and recovery.
Smart features to make your daily life easier
The Garmin Fenix 8 watch can be paired with smartphones running Android or iOS. On both platforms, thanks to the built-in microphone and speaker, the watch offers the ability to make Bluetooth calls directly from your wrist (the watch does not have a built-in SIM card and requires a connected compatible smartphone nearby for the calling function). On both platforms, it's a given that you can view notifications and incoming calls on the watch display. If you own an Android phone, you can also reply to messages directly from the watch display. With the Garmin Fenix 8 watch, you can also record short voice notes or use voice assistant services.

Popular features include contactless Garmin Pay payments, which let you add a digital copy of your regular payment card to your Fenix 8 watch (if your card supports the feature) and then pay with the watch in a similar way to using a payment card.
