The BOSCH SMV8ECX05E Serie 8 fully integrated dishwasher combines high energy efficiency with premium features for convenient washing, drying and loading. Its energy consumption is 10% lower than the requirements for energy class A, while EfficientDry automatically opens the door at the end of the programme for more effective drying. The EfficientDry function helps to achieve better-dried dishes without the need for extra towelling. After the programme finishes, the door of the BOSCH SMV8ECX05E Serie 8 dishwasher automatically opens slightly, which allows moisture to escape, reduces condensation and gently cools the dishes. What's more, this more natural way of drying helps to save energy.
Stainless steel with a lower carbon footprint
Our Class A dishwashers, made in Germany, contain a proportion of CO₂-reduced stainless steel. This specially manufactured material is carefully tracked and assigned to these dishwashers via a certified mass balance system.* Compared to conventional stainless steel, it has a carbon footprint that is up to 40% lower.**
*During production, the reduced-CO2 stainless steel is mixed with conventional stainless steel, but is allocated to our energy efficiency class A dishwashers based on a mass balance calculation (according to ISO 22095), verified and confirmed by TÜV Rheinland.
**Reduced-CO2 stainless steel consists of 95% higher-quality recycled material. The comparison is with conventional stainless steel used in the manufacture of our dishwashers.
More intensive washing with the Extra Clean Zone
The Extra Clean Zone helps to remove tougher dirt from dishes placed in the top basket. Three rotating water jets intensify soaking and spraying in this area without needing to increase the amount of detergent or the water temperature. Simply activate the function and the dishwasher will provide more intensive care exactly where it's needed.
TimeLight displays the programme progress on the floor
With a fully integrated dishwasher, you don't have to open the door to find out how long the programme has left. The TimeLight function projects information about the current wash cycle, including the remaining time, directly onto the floor. This means you can always keep an eye on the dishwasher's activity.
Emotion Light illuminates the interior
The Emotion Light function provides clear illumination of the dishes inside the dishwasher. A light located at the top automatically turns on when the door is opened and off again when it is closed. This makes loading and unloading dishes more convenient, even in poor ambient light.
Flexible Max Flex Pro baskets
The Max Flex Pro baskets are designed to make it easy to store different types of dishes while holding them securely in place during the wash. The adaptable layout allows you to make better use of the available space, and the improved sliding system ensures the baskets move smoothly during loading and unloading.
VarioDrawer Pro adds extra space
The VarioDrawer Pro cutlery drawer creates a separate level for cutlery, ladles, small kitchen utensils or even espresso cups. Fold-down elements allow you to adapt the space for cutlery with wider handles, and lowered sections on the sides offer room for really small items. In addition, red-marked touchpoints help you quickly identify the adjustment options.
Proven hygienic performance
The Eco 50°C programme achieves a hygiene level certified by the Institute for Integrative Hygiene and Virology, and effectively eliminates viruses such as influenza and coronaviruses. An even higher level of hygiene can be achieved with the Intensive 70°C programme or the Machine Care maintenance cycle, which are also effective against more resistant enveloped and non-enveloped viruses.
Dosage Assistant for efficient detergent use
The Dosage Assistant helps to use the cleaning tablet evenly and effectively. After being released from the dispenser, the tablet drops into a special collection tray at the top of the basket, where it gradually dissolves. This allows the detergent to be distributed evenly throughout the cycle and contributes to clean, residue-free dishes.
Smart Start selects the right moment
Smart Start helps you manage your appliance's energy consumption more strategically. This feature automatically selects the dishwasher's start time based on one of two presets you can set in the Home Connect app, which take into account two parameters within the wash cycle: the availability and proportion of renewable energy (such as solar or wind), or lower energy costs when your electricity rates are lowest.*
*Cost savings require compatible switching between high and low electricity tariffs. Optimisation is performed either to maximise the share of renewable energy in the grid or to reduce costs. The availability of features may vary from country to country.
Additional downloadable programmes
You can expand the dishwasher's range of options with the Programme Download function. Through the Home Connect app, you can get additional wash programmes that better suit specific needs or dish types. Dishwashers with SilentPowerDrive ensure efficient washing at a low noise level. They are equipped with a brushless motor designed for energy-efficient operation. The motor helps to reduce noise caused by friction and contributes to the appliance's smooth and quiet running.

The Statistics function in the Home Connect app gives you a clear overview of how you actually use your appliances. You can see which programmes and settings you choose most often, as well as your total energy and water consumption over time. A 12-month history makes it easy to track how your choices affect your consumption month by month, giving you a clear picture of your daily habits.
Consumption forecast before starting a programme
Wondering how much energy and water a particular programme will use? The Consumption Forecast function in the Home Connect app shows you the estimated energy and water consumption, as well as the expected duration, for any combination of programme and optional function you select. This lets you calmly compare the options and choose the programme that best suits the current dishes in the dishwasher and your needs.
Automatic notifications sent directly to your phone
You don't have to keep checking if the dishwasher has finished. With Home Connect automatic notifications, you can receive information about the current programme status and other useful alerts on your mobile device. Is it possible to remove the top panel of a freestanding dishwasher, and how tall will it be afterwards?
Yes, on most freestanding dishwashers the top lid can be removed. This brings the appliance's height down from 85 cm to 81.5 cm, allowing it to fit under a standard countertop.
What is the difference between freestanding/undercounter/built-in/fully integrated dishwashers?
A freestanding model has its own outer casing and top lid. An undercounter model sits under the counter but keeps its original front door and control panel. A built-in (semi-integrated) model has its front covered by a kitchen cabinet panel, though the control panel stays visible. A fully integrated model is completely hidden behind the cabinet door, with the control panel mounted on the top edge of the door.
What does it mean that the front panel on the door is not included in the delivery?
For built-in and fully integrated models, the dishwasher ships without an outer decorative panel. That panel, matching your kitchen's design, is supplied and fitted by your kitchen furniture provider.
What is the duration of each program?
Duration depends on the cycle chosen. Quick or 1-hour cycles run about 30–60 minutes, while an Auto cycle (45–65°C) takes around 2–2.5 hours. The Eco 50°C program can run 3.5 to 4 hours, since it washes at a lower temperature with longer water contact time to save energy.
On the control panel of the dishwasher, it is not possible to change the program and Eco50 is still illuminated.
A cycle is currently running or was interrupted. Reset the appliance by pressing and holding the "Start" button (or the button marked Reset 3s) for 3 seconds. The display will then show 1 minute remaining, and once that counts down and the water drains, you'll be able to select a new program.
Does the dishwasher have a function to open the door before the program ends?
Yes. Models with EfficientDry automatically open the door slightly during the drying phase, improving results and saving energy. Models with OpenAssist let you open handle-free doors just by pushing on them at any point during the cycle, which pauses the program.
What is Zeolite?
Zeolite is a natural mineral used in dishwashers with PerfectDry technology. During drying, it absorbs moisture and converts it into dry, hot air, resulting in exceptionally dry dishes — plastics included — with very little energy use. The mineral regenerates on its own and never needs replacing.
There is water in the dishwasher after delivery.
This is completely normal and actually a sign of quality control — every Bosch or Siemens dishwasher undergoes a thorough wet test at the end of the production line to confirm watertight seals and proper function of all systems.
The new dishwasher is wet inside and has an odor, is that normal?
Yes, this comes from residual water left over from factory testing, which can affect the air quality inside the sealed packaging. Before first use, we recommend running the Machine Care cycle, or a standard intensive program with cleaner and no dishes loaded.
Can the water and drain connections of the dishwasher be extended?
Yes. To extend the AquaStop inlet hose, an original BSH extension kit (part code SGZ1010) is required. The drain hose can be extended with a standard connector and suitable hose, up to a total length of 3.5 to 4 meters.
Why should I choose a more expensive dishwasher?
Higher-end models tend to run quieter and more efficiently (energy class A/B), offer premium drying via Zeolite, have more flexible interior layouts (VarioDrawer cutlery drawer, Max Flex baskets), include Home Connect connectivity, and last longer thanks to premium materials like a full stainless-steel tub.
What are the advantages of connecting a dishwasher to the Home Connect app?
Home Connect lets you start cycles remotely, receive notifications (cycle finished, low salt or rinse aid), download new specialized programs, get remote diagnostics from customer service, and set water hardness or dosing preferences directly from your phone.
The entire control panel is lit up and the dishwasher cannot be operated.
This is likely caused by an active child lock or a minor software glitch. Try holding the key/padlock icon button for 4 seconds to unlock it. If that doesn't help, unplug the dishwasher or switch off its breaker for 5 minutes to perform a hard reset.
What is the difference between EfficientDry, PerfectDry, extra drying, and OpenAssist?
EfficientDry automatically opens the door at the end of the cycle. PerfectDry uses Zeolite minerals for thorough, cupboard-ready drying without needing to open the door. Extra Dry is an optional setting that raises the final rinse temperature and extends the drying phase. OpenAssist provides an automatic touch-to-open door for handleless kitchen designs.
What is an XXL dishwasher?
An XXL dishwasher is a built-in model with a taller body — 86.5 cm instead of the standard 81.5 cm. That extra 5 cm of interior height makes it well suited to large plates, baking sheets, or tall-stemmed wine glasses.
